Students are to continue listening to the morning announcements for information for any updates, if any.

Middle school students will receive the same placement /tryout test. This is because for the actual MathCounts competitions beyond the school level, all students regardless of grade will be receiving the same exam, so MathCounts team is looking for the most well-prepared students regardless of grade.

The placement test will cover middle school math topics including algebra, geometry, number theory, and counting and probability. Some MathCounts exams from last year can be found *here. Students are strongly recommended to view past *AMC8 exams for practice.

Math Olympiad:

CLUB ADVISOR : Mrs. Young

About Math Olympiad

  • Run by DVHS high school math club volunteers

  • The top scoring students will be selected, to make up the team

  • A $100 donation is suggested from each team member to cover the cost of teacher proctors

  • Weekly meetings and contests will be held.

  • Email updates will be provided only to the email ID listed in the Google form.

All students will get the same exam and the same amount of time. There will be no difference in exams between grade levels. The same exams are given because the official contests do not discriminate by grade level, hence we follow the same protocol.
The math level will be at a difficulty similar to other middle school math competitions.
AMC 8 is a famous middle school math competition for a benchmark of difficulty. All past contests can be found online.
Visit here for resources* and sample contest.

  • This is one test only, this is not a club.
  • Resources will be published when available.
  • Please note that updates will be emailed only to the email ID listed in the Google form

Students may check out some AMC 8 resources here*. They may also log in to their MAA AMC*Student Portal to access practice competition.

*Clubs are a great opportunity for your student to extend their learning. It is important to remember that this activity is not a part of your student’s graded curriculum and work, and their participation in this activity is a very special privilege. As such, their participation in this activity is contingent upon how they meet our school community expectations. These privileges will be revoked in the case of any suspension or a Saturday School. We ask that you and your student review the WRMS Student Handbook (also located in the front of the Student Planner) and also carefully review the Responding to Discrimination and Hate Handbook, which can be found online. Remind your students that the use of discriminatory and hate language is never a joke and is not tolerated at Windemere Ranch Middle School.

MathClub/CompLogoSTUDENT PARTICIPATION

We realize that the final group sizes are smaller than preferred and may not accommodate all of our students who have an interest in participating. We try to have math groups that are as inclusive as possible, but also need to work within our current space and proctoring limitations.

It is important that the students have an interest in participating. For that reason, we will communicate any additional information regarding important dates on our school loop page to keep parents informed, but will ask that students sign themselves up at school if interested.

Ms. Helmer will be the contact person with students during their lunchtime for questions, sign-ups, results, and awards.
